When David Brown first opened the doors at Beckworth Emporium in Mears Ashby, Northamptonshire, little did he realise the success they were to enjoy. Four years on, and as the proud owner of a contemporary gardening and food emporium housing a food hall, produce market, garden nursery and award-winning restaurant, he attracts a constant wealth of visitors with his ever-evolving stock of local, artisan and specialist produce.
The award-winning restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea 7 days a week and offers three distinct dining areas; a contemporary dining room set around a precious old olive tree, a stunning glasshouse with high ceilings or for sunnier days, a terraced garden enclosed by a conifer hedge.
The food hall houses the family run traditional butchers Hambleton Farms and a well-stocked deli offering handmade pies, international national and local cheeses and cooked meats. All alongside a range of high quality ready meals for when time is of the essence. Whilst the produce market is a one-stop-shop for fruit, vegetables, all manner of sauces, chutneys and pickles and freshly-baked bread and cakes, a selection of which disappeared in record time in the Country Living office.
On top of all this is an extensive array of plants, garden accessories and pots in the nursery which impressively only stocks plants which are in season and therefore looking their best, plus homeware, greetings cards and gifts and a calendar peppered with regular events.
